Located in the Bering Sea east of the Kamchatka Peninsula, this biosphere reserve consists of four islands including marine areas. It includes tundra ecosystems such as mountains, grassy meadows, wetlands, coastal and marine areas. The flora and fauna of the islands are notable because of the unusual combination of species of Asian and American origin. Its coastal ecosystems are unique due to their diversity of birds and marine mammals.
